Our Story

Serving Granite Falls and Surrounding Communities since 1997, our mission at Lake Hickory Veterinary Hospital is to help your pets live happier, healthier lives by providing exceptional quality medical and surgical care in a compassionate environment. 

What began as a vision for modern, state-of-the-art veterinary care has grown into a full-service veterinary hospital, boarding facility, and doggie day camp, serving Granite Falls and surrounding areas. 

Throughout our growth, we’ve remained committed to ensuring pets and their families receive individual attention and customized treatment plans in a comfortable, caring environment.

Dr. Jason Hefner

Veterinarian

Dr. Jason Hefner earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University. He began his career in large-animal medicine and brings a broad clinical background, shaped by hands-on experience across multiple species.

Dr. Hefner is actively involved in organized veterinary medicine and serves as a District 10 Representative for the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, advocating for colleagues and the profession statewide.

Dr. Hefner lives with his wife, Millie, and their two children, Will and Iris. In his free time, he enjoys collecting art, camping, and traveling with his family.

Dr. Alison Reed

Dr. Alison Reed

Veterinarian

Dr. Alison Reed grew up in Anderson, South Carolina. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Clemson University before completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia.

Dr. Reed has a professional interest in surgery, anesthesia, pain management, and preventive care. She is dedicated to providing high-quality medicine and values the opportunity to build lasting relationships with her clients and their pets.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Reed sings with the Hickory Choral Society and has been an active member of the Hickory Jaycees. She enjoys college football, cooking, reading, hiking, and traveling. You will likely see her dogs, Reesie, Oreo, Mo, Luna, and Piper, around the clinic on any given day. Reesie takes her role as a receptionist’s assistant very seriously!

Dr. Madelyn Moore

Veterinarian

Dr. Moore earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal and Veterinary Science from Clemson University, followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee. She has a strong interest in emergency medicine and surgery, and she is passionate about providing timely, high-quality care to pets in need.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Moore enjoys reading and spending time outdoors with her fiancé. Together, they share their home with three dogs, two cats, and a snake, affectionately referring to their household as their own little zoo.
